Riverston Peak Hike

This is one of the most popular hikes in the area, offering breathtaking views of the Knuckles Mountain Range, Thelgamu Oya Valley, and Sera Ella waterfall. The trail is relatively moderate but can be steep in some sections.

  • Start your day early in the morning with a departure from Matale or Kandy, as it takes approximately 2-3 hours to reach the Riverston area by road.

Late Morning: Arrival at Riverston

  • Arrive at the Riverston area by late morning.
  • Begin your hike from the designated starting point, which is typically located near the Riverston Mini World’s End viewpoint.

Midday: Ascend to Riverston Peak

  • Start the ascent to Riverston Peak, following the well-marked trail through dense forests and rocky terrain.
  • Along the way, take breaks to rest, hydrate, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.

Afternoon: Reach the Summit

  • After a few hours of hiking, reach the summit of Riverston Peak, which offers panoramic views of the Knuckles Mountain Range, Thelgamu Oya Valley, and Sera Ella waterfall.
  • Take some time to relax and soak in the stunning scenery while enjoying a packed lunch or snacks.

Late Afternoon: Descent

  • Begin your descent from the summit of Riverston Peak, retracing your steps back to the starting point.
